I just had to add a comment to say YES you are so right. We live a privileged and lucky life and try to cram in as much as possible. My diary reads pretty much like yours. I over planned for the weekend and over activitise my children - because they demand
it! Downtime is so important for all of us and this has just reminded me that I need to plan it in- otherwise somehow things just creep in and before I know it I'm rushing round like a headless chicken - again!

Ah yes. The mental 'weekend' where you're supposed to be resting but end up being busier than during the week... I have to confess I don't enjoy the frenzied activity-filled weekends very much and heave a sigh of relief when our boys demand one at home
in their pyjamas :)

Aren't weekends suppose to be about slowing down? We get to see friends, relax at home and have quality family time. I love my weekends even though I work Sundays - that's one of the reasons I love them I suppose.

Thursday, December 02, 2010

Achieving work life balance for working mums, as I keep banging on about, is at least in part down to our own attitude and our actions. In the website www.jobs.com, a comment in a recent blog post I've just come across about work life balance mirrors my own stance.  Read More

Top Five Reasons from the Boffins on Why the Kids are Alright

Thursday, November 04, 2010

Working mums don’t have it easy.  There are deadlines to meet, errands to run, kids to shuttle about, and hungry mouths to feed.  We wear many hats and still survive the circus of the daily routine.  To top it off, working mums face hostility at every turn—from traditionalists who lament our roles in the decline of the golden era of 1950s family values to conservatives who criticise us for harming our children, leaving them behind like damaged goods.  And frequently, it’s experts and authorities who feed their daft arguments.  Read More

It’s Official: Why you no longer need to feel guilty for being a working mum

Monday, November 01, 2010

You’ve heard it before, I’m sure.  Perhaps in the check-out line at the grocery store, or at the playground on a Saturday afternoon.  Maybe you’ve even come across it in the office!  You know what I’m talking about—the snarky comments and upturned noses or even the gasps of blatant scorn.  Raise a hand if you’ve ever gotten a reaction like that when you’ve told people you’re a working mum.  Read More

Life Work Balance Tip: Feel the Self-Limiting Belief....and Do It Anyway!

Monday, September 20, 2010

Or should this post be entitled, "When is a self-limiting belief not actually self-limiting"?  I was inspired to write this post by one of my FaB clients who I coached earlier this week on a self-limiting belief around money.  I felt this life work balance tip would help you with your self-limiting beliefs.

This couldn't have come at a more appropriate time. Only about ten minutes earlier I received an email offering an interesting job opportunity. While reading the i-did-this-in-the-90s-with-my-eyes-closed description to my husband, I commented that the sad thing was that I was doubting that i could deliver on the project. Thanks for reinforcing the fact that this way of thinking was b******s.

Work Life Balance Tips: Seven Principles of Balance, Part 2

Monday, August 09, 2010

Share |

Several weeks ago I wrote part one of a blog post entitled “Suffragettes, Sinatra and Pants: Your First Three Principles of Work Life Balance” with the intention to send you part two in the following issue. Then something inspired me and I wrote about that for the next issue. Having already written part two, I completely forgot to post it. It wasn’t until my sister in-law, Denise mentioned it to me last week, telling me how much it had helped her friend to breathe a relieved sigh of, “Oh, I’m doing ok and I’m not the only one”, Denise also told me that she seemed to have missed part two, and it was then that the penny dropped! I hadn’t posted part two!! Finally part two of my work life balance tips.  Read More

Hi Amanda

I enjoyed this post. We are not Islands although sometimes we might like to be - just for the peace and calm - but it is always nice when the ferry comes back in and people come back.
The point you made about the Ferrari is excellent. I am off to practice my self care. Thank you for the reminder

You will have six weeks or more of time to fill for your children, well aware that this is quality family time, irreplaceable for family bonding purposes. You can't help but think how the months and years are flying by and how, before you know it, the children will be all grown up and on their way. Wouldn't it be nice if you could take a six-week holiday as well?!  Read More
